No doubt you have heard the buzz around the emerging wine and food region just south of the San Diego border. This area which is technically in Ensenada is known as Valle de Guadalupe (or Guadalupe Valley) and is now home to over 150 wineries and dozens of fantastic gourmet restaurants!
You will find premium wines in single varietal formats, traditional blends and also exotic, rule-breaking blends that Valle de Guadalupe is slow but surely becoming famous for! This video is a quick compilation from our private wine tour that we hosted this past holiday weekend.
Our guests stayed at the beautiful bed and breakfast Finca La Divina which is owned by celebrity chef Javier Plascencia (of Finca Altozano). We designed an incredible, customized itinerary featuring the best boutique wineries in the region including Mina Penelope, Bodegas Magoni, Solar Fortun, Clos de Tres Cantos and Casa de Piedra.
The gourmet dining in Valle de Guadalupe is leading the charge so we wanted to make sure to feature some of the top restaurants in the area. This lucky group had the chance to enjoy a private chef come to house one day to make an incredible authentic Mexican breakfast followed by lunch at Finca Altozano and dinner at Deckman's en El Mogor.
The next day we visited the famous La Cocina de Dona Esthela for "Baja's best breakfast" followed by a privately hosted wine tasting with Nathan and Veronica - the owner's and winemakers at the super-boutique Mina Penelope which produces just under 400 cases per year (vs. Monte Xanic, their Baja wine neighbors which produces over 60,000 cases of wine each year and of course, the giant L.A. Cetto which produces over 1.5 million cases annually).
After the private tasting we visited Cuatro Cuatros for a cool cocktail and some of the best ocean views imaginable! When the sun had set we loaded back into our luxury Adventure Van and headed to FAUNA, the gourmet restaurant at the awesome new boutique hotel project BRUMA.
Last stop was for a quick nightcap at the chic and modern lobby bar at Encuentro Guadalupe (the "pod hotel") before retiring for the evening. Our guests are always astonished about how safe and easy it is to access this incredible wine and food region which is only 2 hours from San Diego (comparable distance to Temecula).
When visiting Valle de Guadalupe make sure to book a private wine tour the first time or two so that you can be sure to experience the best of the best and also to ensure that you are safe when tasting and traveling on the small dirt roads that make up this beautiful wine valley.
